WD SE Driver Benchmark?

Hey Yall...

I can't seem to get my 120GB Wester Digital SE Drive over 19,000 on the Sisoft Sandra File System benchmark...

I changed the drive to LBA in the BIOS and still no luck... got any suggestions?

Shouldn't I bet getting like 30,000?

It's been partitioned
15GB - C Drive (fat32)
the rest is in NTFS

Could that be a reason?

Thanks

Re: WD SE Driver Benchmark?

Mine was benched @ around 32000 on SiSoft! You could see my score using PCMark.

Quick little update...

So here's what's going on.. Like I was saying.. I split the drive w/ 2 partitions... one of them... the C was in FAT32... and the other... E... was in NTFS

I did the benchmark on the C (FAT32) and I got 31,000 which is what I want to be getting...

I did the benchmark on the E (NTFS) and I got 17,000-18,000.... which is NOT what I want.

Is there a reason I can't get anything higher than that for my second partition?

I haven't benched the other partition so I don't know the score! It's also depends on how much data you have in that partition! I don't have SiSoft anymore but I could give PCMark a run and see what I get!

Taken from Tom's Hardware:

Quote:
Modern harddisks use different track sizes. The outer parts of a disk have more space for sectors than the inner parts. Usually, HD’s begin to write from the outside to the inside of a disk. Hence, data written or read at the beginning of a HD is accessed and transferred faster rate.

This just shows that Benchmarks suck.

The outer part of the disk is always faster than the inner part of the disk. Your C uses from the outer to the middle, and the D uses from the middle to the inner. Of course its slower.
