That's a nice budget. You don't need a case? If you have one already, you should tell us what kind it is so that we can recommend the appropriate motherboard.

Yep, those are all good parts to get to build a new system.

this is the system that i recently built for a friend.

RAIDMAX 268WYP Yellow ATX Case (no PS) $43
ANTEC SL450 450W Power Supply (Retail) $71
Intel P4 2.66Ghz 533FSB (Retail) $240
MSI 845PE Max2-FISR Motherboard $151
Maxtor 120GB ATA/133 HD (w/8MB cache) (retail) $115
Crucial 512MB PC2700 DDR333 $84.32
Lite-On LTD-166S 16X DVD-ROM (Retail) $34.61
Lite-On 52x24x52 CD-RW (Retail) $48.56
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro AGP w/128MB (retail) $97.41

That all comes up to around $950.

The MSI board comes with:
USB 2.0
Gigabit LAN
5.1 Sound Card
Serial ATA
RAID

The system runs pretty fast IMHO. Seems faster than my dual athlon mp system. And if you haven't already purchased the OS, the remainder may be allocated there. If you already have, I'd probably suggest waiting til some time in April when the new ATI cards are coming out, which will drop the rest of the prices. At that point, you could probably get a Radeon 9700 or the 9800 possibly, depending on how the prices turn out.

ANTEC SL450 450W Power Supply (Retail) $71

Is that a good power supply?
What's the best power supply to get under $150! I need one that is powerful and very quiet too! any suggestions, this is for a p4 anywhere from 2.5 -> 3.06 ghz processor (have to decide), asus mb, 2 hard drives, etc.

That Antec is good. I'd go for an Antec TruePower supply like the True480 before that one though.

For that price, PCPowerandcooling is what you get. Check out the Silencer 400 ATX/ATX12V. http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/prices/index.htm
