Radeon 256 mg 9800 = $549!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/20...0324019264.htm

"Preliminary evidence suggests that the Radeon Pro 9800 may soon be available. Falcon-Northwest is accepting pre-orders of the 9800, and versions of the 9800 with 256 MB RAM are starting to appear. Although the 256 MB card costs US$549, MaximumPC is claiming that "For high-resolution, high-detail 3-d graphics, 256 MB frame buffers will become a necessity." The Radeon 9800 magazine review goes on to claim that "While we're sure that DOOM III will run on cards with a 128 MB frame buffer, we also bet that the game (as well as game's based on Carmack's engine) will be able to take advantage of 256 MB." The Maximum PC article, which compared a Radeon Pro 9800 to a GeForce FX, notes that the GeForce FX fan assembly has a design flaw--it doesn't contain a filter. As a result, the fan assembly may be rendered ineffective within a couple of months due to dust accumulation. MaximumPC concludes by stating that "One card [GeForce FX] is fast but noisy. The second card [Radeon Pro 9800] is faster and not noisy. The choice is clear." The NV35, therefore, will need to be available in 256 MB RAM versions in order to be competitive with the Radeon Pro 9800 256."

LCD or video card? Decisions, decisions.........

Damn hopefully the R9700AIW price goes down so I could get one. Even the R8500AIW (128MB version) is too expensive for my taste.
