Refurbished Processor?

Right now there is a refurbished P4 on the deals page. I was just wondering what a refurbished processor is. Like what could go wrong that they could fix so that the chip is in a sellable condition again.

Maybe a couple pins fell out and it was running half speed.

Usually refurbished is just a fancy word for 'used'. It doesn't necessarily mean that anyone ever worked on it, it just means it's not 'new in box' anymore.

Most refurbished items are just reboxed customer returns.

A year warranty should be enough on something like this, no? I mean... usually with chips... they either work, or they don't. Almost always right away.

I totally agree. Actually 90 days would probably be fine. I would just run a few burn in progs after I got it. I was just curious...
