Question Dell 1800 FP LCD Blurriness

I recently purchased an 1800 FP LCD monitor from Dell after seeing a deal on this site. I have it hooked up (using the analog port, 1280x1024) to a system running RedHat 8.0, and fonts are extremely blurry, and the contrast is terrible (ie if you have white text on a black background, the black intrudes on the white).

I've played with the anti-aliasing settings in gnome and kde and tried turning them on and off, but the problem still exists. I've also played with the monitor's brightness and contrast settings.

I'm very disappointed, because my girlfriend has a generic 15" LCD running on her Win2k box that has just about perfect contrast and colors. Meanwhile, this 18 incher gives me headaches after 5 minutes of use. Part of the problem is that the text looks best when the brightness and contrast are turned all the way up, and this is way too bright for me to look at... it's like it's pounding the light into my skull.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems, or if there are any suggestions.

Thanks.

Thanks. I tried hooking up the monitor to another computer, and it looked great. I started swapping parts around a bit, and realized that the monitor cable (the one that came with the monitor, which doesn't seem to be shielded) was causing some of the problem. The other part was the videocard in the system... after swapping that out, everything is perfectly clear.
