Unsuccessful computer transplant! Help a brother out =D (Update)

There are two computers: mine and my dad's

The scenario: I took the mobo, RAM, and CPU out of my computer and plopped it in a new case with my dad's CD-ROM, PCI cards, etc. Then I took a new CPU, RAM, and mobo that I just purchased and put it into my case with everything else.

Here's the question: Do I have to format and install a new OS on both?? They don't seem to be working! My computer gets to BIOS, that's all it does, and my dad's powers up but displays nothing on the screen (it's a PCI voodoo 2, maybe that is it).

But do I have to wipe off the hard drives? Oddly enough though, on my computer, I remember it usually goes to another screen with the IRQ assignments and stuff (after the screen that has processor speed, mem count, and the 4 main IDE devices listed), but it doesn't go to that 2nd screen.

THHHHHAAANK YOU!

UPDATE: Dad PC works with old hard drive and my 9500 Pro! May be an excuse to go out and pick up another 80 or 120GB drive for my PC's OS drive (but may be able to transfer files to the 10 remaining gigs on one of my other drives)

UPDATE 2: Dad PC works with Voodoo2! Now onto mine...

UPDATE 3: My PC works! Put in the old Dad PC 15GB hard drive (grr) while his OS drive is my old 40GB. Installing Windows on my PC, then planning to do massive hard drive swapping and copying (anyone want to loan me their DVD burner for today? Otherwise, it's 700MB at a time on CD-R's!

UPDATE 4: I went out and bought the Maxtor 80GB Ultra to be my main OS drive, as DF recommended, only to realize that I can just put my dad's old 15gb back in and reformat (there is only 1 driver to install, modem), and then I get to keep my old 40GB, plus treat myself to the new 80GB, bringing my system to a total of 320GB

Forget the OS, first you gotta figure out what's wrong before it even gets to the OS.

But, ya.. you will have to probably re-install the OS. What version is it? You see, Windows doesn't like it when you change too much hardware.

I remember reading that they intentionally made XP to force a reload when too much hardware was changed as a copy protection measure.

And thank goodness... I just found a 4GB Seagate that I can use for my computer's OS drive (temporary I hope)... I didn't want to have to wipe out either of my 60's or 80!

Nada -- it worked standalone on the old Dad PC, see, he fried my old Voodoo 3 AGP, and my old GeForce2 64MB AGP by accidentally pulling them out while the computer was on (don't ask how, lol)... so we're resorting to this PCI card. I currently put my Radeon 9500 Pro in the new Dad PC and I'll try powering it up when I get back to the house in a bit.

A Voodoo 2 card is a 3D only add-on card. Maybe what you have is a Voodoo Banshee.
