Network printer help please

I’m having some problems with an HP Network printer on a NT4 Network using TCP/IP Direct Jet
The printer sometime stops working and I have to release it from the DHCP scope and then restart the printer and then it starts working again. So after that I decided to set the printer to a permanent address and I still have the same issues, but now I only have to restart the printer and it will start printing. (most of the time) do any of you have any ideas for a permanent solution. It just started doing this it use to work just fine until recently.

Upgrade the firmware on the Jet Direct card. Use the link below to get the Download manager, and use that to update the firmware.

Change the network cable. Also check the settings for keep alives.

Last resort, disable power saver on the printer. It prolly loses it when it goes to sleep.

You should STILL update the firmware!

ok i need a little assistance with this. i dont think it is the cable because this happens to both network printers.

where do i go to check the settings to keep alives and what should it be set to.

Will check into updateing firmware not sure how hard that will be.

thx again for assistance. it is appricated.

now the printer has to be cycled on and off to print each job this is so weird. also i have rebooted the server

Firmware is easy enough. Just d/l the download manager, plug in the IP of the printer in question. It will then display the current firmware of the machine and the updated firmware versions available. Just select the machine and hit update.

You can also have it go out and look up all of the HP print servers on your network and display the same info.

For the TCP/IP timeout settings (keep alives) what type of printer do you have? I can then look up the settings for you.

Last, did you disable power saver on the printers?

I have a HP LaserJet 4050N printer on a NT4.x network.

With firmware date code 1991030B6.30PS Wait Time-out 300 seconds
HP Jet send address 10.40.125.214

HP JetDirect J3113A
FirmWare Revision G.08.04
Idle Time out Seconds 90
TCP/IP Status 40

Will try and figure out how to turn off the power saver soon. do i do that from the printer it's self or from a PC
Thanks

I have had this problem before and it turned out to be a bad card.
