Can't wait till price drops anymore...
well i've been waiting to get a new mobo for a few months now and the prices are not dropping. After searching for some prices and the specs of the mobos i have came up upon these 2.
MSI 865PE Neo2-LS "Springdale" Motherboard Chipset: 865PE Processor Support: Intel Pentium 4 upto 3.6GHz ( 400/533/800 FSB) Memory Support: Up to 3GB PC 3200 DDR DRAM Expansion Slot: 1x (8X) AGP, 5x PCI, Other Features: 6.Ch Audio,Lan, 2 SATA , USB 2.0, 10/100 Lan, or Asus P4PE i845PE Motherboard Chipset: Intel 82845PE Processor Support: Upto Celeron 2.0GHz, Pentium 3.GHz+ Memory Support: Up to 2GB PC 2700 DDR Expansion Slot: 1x AGP 4X, 6x PCI, Other Features: Serial ATA, 6-Channel Sound, Giga Lan, Support Hyper-Threading Technology, USB 2.0 my budget on mobos are about $100 - $170. These 2 mobos that are in the price range. but are there any other mobos in the same price range better than these 2. it has to be stable and fast thats all i can say. |

Well what cpu are you getting? If you are getting an 800mhz fsb pentium then you should get a canterwood not a springdale. If you are getting a 533 then i'd suggest getting the springdale so you can upgrade later if need be. The 845 is a solid mobo but is definitly showing its age and doesnt give you an upgrade path.

Thats not a good deal because that mobo sucks ass. The only AMD chipset currently worth buying is Nforce2. At least until the KT600 launches, but I don't put much faith in VIA. Buy an Nforce2 if getting an AMD.

The MSI and Albatrons will probably give the most bang for the buck. That Anandtech review said it all, but many will pay 50% more or whatever for 3% - 10% (JK2) performance boost. I think the high end 875 boards may also show some strength with the next gen games, but not worth the premium IMO.
What about the SIS based boards? Cheaper than the 865's and very close performance. Either way let us know. I don't need to upgrade yet but I'm always looking. -jel ![]() |
