Anyone have a TV tuner or Video Input device?
I have a LeadTek(sp?) TV tuner on my PC with S-video and composit inputs. While the TV feature works great, when I hook my Dreamcast up to the composits it looks very blurry. I bought a converter box and hooked it up through the coaxle cable and it helped, but it is still very blurry. I think my card gets interferince from being inside the computer. I haven't tried hooking up a DVD player or anything yet though...
Can anyone recomend a TV tuner or video input device that works well? I also wanted to start capturing video from my camcorder into the PC with it. |

ViewSonic NextVision6. Price matters with TV tuner boxes. Cheaper ones use cheaper scalars and other components.

I would assume that external is better due to interferience? The ViewSonic looks like its the shizzle, but for around $300 its a little out of my budget. I was hoping to find something that is sub $100 since I am a broke college student.

I have an ancient ATI AllInWonder Video Capture Card which works great for analog capture. There are quite a few at half.com. However, make sure that the cables come with the card. ATI makes proprietary cables for some of their cards.

The Dreamcast cannot output s-video? There's a definite step up there from the basic composite.

On the tv tuner card there is just a coax cable and a s-video. there is a Y cable that splits the s-video into s-video and composits so having the dreamcast on s-video wont remedy this problem. |

You will probably get a better picture using something like the Lifeview Flyvideo 2000 ($40) or the Asus TV880 ($55), but it's an incremental step up.

Definitely don't go with a basic Hauppauge! card. I've owned 2, and thankfully I've got this 2nd one working again, but the scaling is horrific compared to the Asus TV880 that one of my cronies has. I'd say try the ATI AIW if you're doing analog capture.

I have been wanting to convert a bunch of my old VHS and Hi-8 tapes to digital. Do you guys think I can use a TV tuner card to do this, by going coax in from a VCR?

I have had a few AIW cards too, including the newest one. Not nearly as good as the two I mentioned.

For $60 I was looking at the Asus one because I know Asus makes good products and doesn't use cheap components like other companies. Newegg has it for $59.99
