Question

I just got a cable modem and I want more! Its a GI SB3100D, and it only allows one user. Does anyone know how I can make it allow a few (say, 32) users without paying $200 for a router?

Question

Do you have anymore information on the modem?

Like the product website?

You mean it only allows a single user and a hub just won't work on it?

Well the problem is that the cable company has only assigned you one IP address, so a router would do you no good. What you need to do is IP Masquerading. And Linux handles that really well. Just get an old 386/486 system and slap Linux on it. Hack a little and you got yo'self a whole bunch of IP-addresses for Internet surfing.

Me and my roomies use Win98 Second Ed. Internet Connection Sharing to very good luck. A little buggy with ICQ file transfers, but everything else is fine using it. It's very fast as well.

check out www.nat32.com

runs very well on windowsNT/2000 (from my own experience) and probably pretty well on win95/98

you only need one nic in the "server" and a hub/switch to share the bandwidth.

also, is very kind in terms of memory/cpu usage
