building comp for flight sim need suggestions

Hey guys, my dad's friend at work was wondering if I could put him together something that will run the newest (2004 I assume) Flight Simulator with pretty much the top notch settings. He's been doing a lot of flying and is going for his license, he would like to use Flight Sim for added practice.

This is where my troubles come in....I really don't know much about flight sim and how rough graphically it can be, i.e I don't want to put him something together for dirt cheap that would run , say, soldier of fortune II without a hitch but bog up on Flight Sim and I also don't want to overdo it and make him spend a bunch of extra money. I also don't know if Flight Sim is one of those programs that would benefit from dual processors or hyperthreading or loading up with like a gig of ram.

I was looking into the new P4's with the 800mhz bus (maybe the 2.6ghz) because I am yet to put together a P4 rig, and couple it with 512 megs of some Samsung PC3700 DDR ram and either a WD SE or maxtor 8meg cache hard drive and a Radeom 9700 Pro video card. For a motherboard I was thinking the Asus P4P800 Springdale that has onbaord sound and lan. The other components are not necessary at this time (i.e monitor, joystick, yadda yadda yadda)

Would this setup be overkill?
considering the low system requirements..
Windows 98/2000/XP/Me

Pentium 450 or greater processor

64 MB RAM for 98/Me, 128 MB RAM for 2000/XP

8 MB/3-D with DirectX 7.0 or later videocard

1.8 GB hard drive space

Joystick/yoke, soundcard, speakers/headphones

56.6 kbps modem or LAN required for online play

You know, that maybe be overkill for MS Flight Simulator 2004, I've looked at the graphics and they dont seem that intense. I do'nt personally have the game. What you might want to hink about though is that he is probably going to want to get MS FlightSim 2005, 2006, 2007. That computer should let him play the next few flight sims for the upcoming years.

how many monitors does he want probly? On the consumer front, you could get one of those Matrox Parhelia triple monitor video cards reviewed here and a couple of cheap CRT's.

I'll inquire about the triple monitor video card, but I think he is looking to buy just a single 17 inch LCD monitor to save some space.
