5.1 Sound don't work

I don't know why it isn't working. I'm playing a DVD that has 5.1 Surround sound. But the center speaker don't work. Any tips on how to fix it.

TIA

there could be a variety of issues...first off, what sonud card do you have and what software dvd player are you using to playback the movie?
A good first step would be to go to the windows control panel, then hit up the sounds and audio devices and make sure to tell windows you have 5.1 surround sound hooked up and most likely it's in the analog variety so make sure "digital out only" is unchecked. Next, bring up your sound card's software where you can probably tell that you are using 5.1 speakers and not 4 channel speaker (which is seems like it thinks you're using). Finally, go into the software dvd player options and tell it that you're using 5.1 channel speakers. Hope this helps.

I have the same card, occasionaly when I restart my computer, the AudioHQ seems to think I only have 2 channel speakers hooked up...so I'd recommend going into the AudioHQ control panel, then to speakers and it should tell you what mode it's in...if it does say 5.1 speakers, change it to something else and then back to 5.1 speakers, that sometimes does the trick.

*also run the "test" it will run through all your speakers and it will let you know if your center channel is working
If this doesn't work, go to the settings in that same menu and make sure "decode dolby digital" is checked and the center channel volume is all the way up

everything is setup correctly and still now 5.1 sound from the middle speakers. The Rears and Fronts are working but not the middle...

This seems really weird.

my favorite is PowerDVD XP because is has DTS decoding which is always a plus. What happened when you ran the test in the AudioHQ? Did the center channel give sound?

Then it sounds like it could be a setting in the DVD player you're using. Which player are you using? You should be able to enable 6 channel output from it.

Since you are just using Windows Media Player you may need an AC3Filter to help decode the 5.1 signal (even though the audigy is capable of decoding dolby digital)....
download the AC3 Filter here

nope still can't get the center to work. I say this is very odd or I'm not just good with soundcards/ speakers.
