need advice on building new comp
ok. so i'm trying to help a buddy of mine at church by getting him a computer (he lives in the projects and doesn't even have a phone at home). but he's really artistic and want to get him into digital media. i probably won't get him a new rig until he's got some basics down.
so i just need a rig that'll run: photoshop, illustrator, etc. just a computer he can use to develop skills. should i get any kind of special video card? i'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible. TIA! |

Just grab one of the dell deals. Cheapest solution I can think of.
Monitors are expensive for nice ones. Get mid grade card or buy a nice one later. -jel ![]() |

64 MB video card for good measure, although a 32 won't be terrible. Dude, get 'em a Dell!

I'm fourth on the Dell Dimension 4600 with P4C 2.4Ghz. I would add the 128MB GF FX5200 video card for extra $15.

I'll also go with deal. Just look around in the Dell computers section and you'll find the right one.

Since he's an artist you might want to consider getting him something like a Wacom tablet.
