I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

I have a question now....

In my dropdown menus and in my taskbar, there are yellow discolorings between some of the letters...anyone know why?

Forgot to add....

I turned on cleartype via M$ website using the BGR option. I read somewhere that this monitor uses this kind of thing not the RGB one.

Use the one that looks better. I think it even says on MS' site that BGR is very rare...\

I have the same monitor and don't have issues with clear type.

This is what I'm talking about. Please tell me that you can see a little bit of yellow in between some of the letters.

http://www.extrememhz.com/dell1800fp-p4.shtml <--- And there is the link that says that the monitor runs on the BGR type of thing.

ah ... is that a smooth fonts problem? your vid card driver might have tweaks for stuff, but maybe it's a smooth fonts, or clear fonts or something like that. i THINK i've had that problem before with a crt a LONG time ago

I set up a couple of Dell 18" flat panels at my job recently, and I noticed the same thing. I ended up disabling ClearType.

Any other suggestions?

i'm using my friend's dell 19" ultrasharp LCD and he's using my 3 year old 19" CRT. hehe. it's beautiful! but we traded cuz he wants a monitor that supports 16x12 and the 19" LCD does 1280x1024 max. great temporary switch (until he gets his two 20 or 21" LCDs. bastard. hehe.)
