athlon xp 2000+ and K7S5A mobo

Hi i have the cpu mobo combo from frys that they always sell and that mobo has 2 slots for sdram and 2 slots for ddram. I initially only had one stick of 256mb pc133 ram and put that in. I realized later that my cpu was only running at 1.25Ghz so i went into the bios and saw that the FSB was
at 100/100 so i changed it to 266 or something like that and now it wont boot. Will pc2100 ddr ram make it boot? I tried taking out the battery on the mobo but it still won't boot. helppppp

Hi. The problem is that you are trying to push pc133 ram at DDR speeds. A stick of PC2700 or 2100 would fix your problem, but you probably have to take out the SDRAM (assuming that its max speed is limited by the slowest ram). In order to use your computer for now, look in the manual for the mobo. There should be a jumper you can put on and then remove in order to clear your bios settings. Use this to clear your bios and then it should reboot, though you will probably have to re-enter the date and time and redo any changes you made to it (except for upping the fsb, of course).

Also, a 2000+ should run at 1.67Ghz, but I'm not sure why it would run at such a low clock speed. I dunno what kind of mobo that is, tho I don't really know mobo models, but having slots for 2 types of ram just sounds wierd.

thanks for the tip
UPDATE: i found the reset jumper for the mobo then set the FSB to 133/133 and now it runs at the correct processor speed. ANother question though, would it work if i set the FSB to 166/133? Isnt that first number the cpu speed and the second number is the ram speed right?

Keep it at 133/133. You are correct about the speeds, but the 2000+ is a 133 fsb. That mb is not known for overclocking so it probably won't run at 166.
