notebook cpu

Don't know much about notebooks. Whats the difference between the mobile pentium 4 chip and the pentium centrino? I think the mobile chip goes to about 3ghz, but the centrino doesnt go nearly as fast does it? (number speaking) so would a centrino be better even tho the mhz is lower? thanks.

Yes, the centrino clock speeds are lower, but performance is higher. A 1.7GHz Centrino will perform on par with a 2.5 - 3.0GHz P4. Also, the power consumption of the Centrino is lower, so you generally get a longer battery life.

I wouldn't hesitate to get a Centrino over a P4, assuming everything else is equal.

The Centrino uses less power and generates less heat thus the laptop doesn't need big heat sink. That will make the Centrino laptop lighter.

They actually game well too. Unless you never ever plan on using the laptop for anything other than a desktop machine, go Centrino. P4 laptops only have the advantage of sometimes being cheaper, and also great for keeping warm with in the wintertime.
