2 nicks 2 networks
Ok,
I wanted to know if I installed 2 network adapters in my pc and connected both of them to ports on my Cisco 100 mbps router if I would have a a even faster internet and network connection. Would my pc be able to use both nic’s at the same time. Would I have 2 addresses. Any thing you can do with a pc that has 2 nic’s I actually have 2 different networks ISP’s at work can I use 2 cards and connect ot both at the same time They use different DNS , and subnets Thanks Grape |

A friend once set up 2 NICs in his computer so that we could connect multiple computers without a switch or router. The idea worked...

Don't some servers support teaming? (or do I have my concepts wrong) but I've never seen it done on a reg pc.

You could connect to both isp's and have different connections, but i dont know if you would really notice a benefit. You would need to be able to direct different programs through each connection and i dont know if you can do that.
And there isn't a point at your home to connect two network cards to one router. The router gets data in from the internet at a certain rate. And it passes that stuff through the wires at that rate or close to it. When you plug in an extra wire, the info splits in half and goes to each wire or computer. So essentially it would be like drinking our of two little straws instead of one big one. It is highly doubtful that it would function, and i think it would have more loss of information speed because the router has to split the stream. Seems pretty wasteful in process so my guess is even if it worked, it would not benefit you. The one at work might work but i dont know if you gain much from the situation.

I can't help with the 2 NIC problem but...My, now banned, friend dopey owns a router that lets him have dsl and cable plugged in at the same time, and be used at the same time. maybe you want something like that? it would probably be a little more manageable.

Sounds like you're talking about connecting 2 NICs to the same router that's attached to a single ISP... this will gain you nothing at all in terms of speed. Either way you have the same bandwidth on the router, so splitting it to 2 connections won't do anything for ya.
If you had 2 ISPs, you can connect both of them to a single machine, but that won't increase your speed either, since you can only use one conenction at a time. I suppose if you're doing a big download on one side and surfing the web on the other then it would be worthwhile, but other than that you wouldn't see a difference.
