should i bother getting a wireless card for my axim?
i have a new dell axim x5 and am contemplating buying a True Mobile™ 1180 802.11b Wireless Compact Flash Card for it. we have wireless here at work and i have it at home. can you actually browse decently on these things?
and when i say i'm thinking about buying the card, what i mean is...i'm thinking about having the company buy me a card for it. ![]()

I’ve been contemplating it, and I think it’s a good idea.
1) Voice-over IP software turns your Axim into a phone (free software at download.com) when in a wireless network 2) Several applications you can run like IRemote that use an 802.11 network instead of IrDA… basically, you can turn it into one of those cool Sony touchscreen commander controller things (like in home theatre) for your PC. 3) Wireless internet – good for email no doubt, and for webpage viewing, there are programs out there that can flip the screen on its side for easier viewing (does not clip anything that way). Go for it mister! |

I'm thinking about buying one too. And by that I mean I'm thinking of having your company buy it for me. I wish. But yeah dude sounds like it'd be great. Wireless at work and at home, and you wouldn't have to pay for it? That's too good an offer to refuse.

I have an Axim and a wireless card and surfing the web with it is painful at best for me. I'm not sure where the limitation is, but it is SLOW. I do like it for syncing with my computer remotely throughout the office and connecting to AIM and being able to wander is nice. It is also good for backing up your handheld to your PC, it is much faster with a wireless card.

two years ago i was on the wifi/pda bandwagon with my ipaq. The novelty wears off pretty quick unless you have an actual use for it (And judging by your post, i doubt that you do). I started using it again at school to check my email since its very very fast compared to booting up a computer and checkign it the old way. I also used it a couple times as a radio with shoutcast streams, neat but not practical.

When I had an Axim, this was my experience too. The novelty wore off very quickly, and I returned the whole shabang after two weeks of trying to become comfortable with it.
