9600xt vs 9500pro

This could be a hardware question, or a deals question, but I'll ask it here.

sapphire atlantis 9500 pro for 129

vs

ati radeon 9600 xt for 180

Which is the better deal? Which is the better card? I play 1st person shooters mainly and want dx9 support.

All I can say is, when you unlock the overclocking for the 9500 Pro, that thing is smokin'

Although I don't know much about the 9600 XT, you do get a free copy of Half Life 2 with purchase, so if you were planning on getting it anyway, you can drop the price of the 9600 XT down $45-50 to $130 ^_^

i don't think you can go wrong with either card. I have a R9500pro and I personally think its great. I play alot of first person and simulator games so I think its good.

YEah finding a 9500pro for $129 will be the tough part, but if you can, go for it. The 9500pro is marginally faster than the 9600xt and the only reason I would not count the HL2 bundle as a good deal is that you are basically giving them a $50 loan which there is no promise date of repayment. That $50 would be better kept in a savings account or something where it will at least gain some interest and then spend it on HL2.

BTW, 9600XT has it's own supported form of overclocking, called overdrive, which should boost performance by 7-15%. Does that comment take that into consideration?

Don't quote me on this, but I think the XTs are more widely supported by games than it's predecessors. I know that the 9700pro, even though faster, has compatibility issues with certain games. maybe the same is true with the 9500??

Look at the Hardocp review. The 9500pro is a slight bit faster. Thats the power of 8 pipelines verse 4.

As far as compatability, they all run on the r3xx core so they all share the same compatabilty issues/non-issues.

From reviews I've seen the 9600XT is slightly faster than the 9500pro. It also has a slightly enhanced pixel shader and an f-buffer that may be used in future games. OEM's of the 9600xt can be found for $160.

I was looking at these cards too, and I was told by someone I would not see a jump in performance over the GeForce4 PNY Ti4400 that I have now. I have a 1800XP+ system, but I will be getting a 2600+XP soon enough.

What do you think?

You are not going to see a big perforamnce jump. Save your money and upgrade next year SmokeyDP.
