What would you do with an old dual P200 server?

Well?

I have a Server with 4 200mhz Pentium's in it. It has a gig of ram and a Hot swap raid setup of 4 scsi 9gigers. Dual powersupplys, the thing thing is so loud and powersucking that its worth it just to get that $250 dell from the main page and hook that up.

Thats the setup i used to have. My old p2 300 was on 24/7 as my router/fileserver/webserver/ftpserver, VERY CONVENIENT and flexible. Of course that was way back before electricity cost an arm and a leg.

See if you can make it fly. Like Junk Yard Wars or something. That's the most interesting thing I can think to do with a dinosaur like that. It's huge too no?

I've been playing with FreeBSD under VMWare, and like it so far -- and yes, it would run quite well on an older system like that.

Same as everyone else...

Slap a big hard drive in it, and put BSD or Linux on it.
Doesn't really matter much which one. It'll make a nice little server.

Set it up to allow VNC connections, (or ssh, or whatever is appropriate for the config) and you can bury it in a closet somewhere, so you don't need a monitor for it, and you won't need to listen to it.

I'm running an old Pentium Pro 200 as my PDC/File server. I'm about to upgrade my PDC to something with a little more oomph, but this system is more than enough to handle my everyday chores. The only reason to upgrade is to increase the amount of available disk space at my disposal and to allow for some disaster recovery (RAID 5).

I took one and maid a MAME emulator and put it in a old arcade cabinet. Now I can play all the old favorites just like I did when I was little.
