Recording Tivo recordings to computer
I want to extract some of my tivo recordings to a computer because I have some shows my mom wanted me to show her. I don't want to hack my tivo because it looks like daunting task and I don't have time for it right now. So I know you can output the video to a computer's TV capture card and then you have to do a encoding to a compact format. Has someone done this? Can someone recommend a good, cheap capture card that's reliable? What's a easy to use software program to do this encoding?
Thanks guys! |

Here's another way to do it...
If you have a digital camcorder with firewire (and your PC has firewire), plug your Tivo into the analog inputs of your Camcorder, and then have your PC capture the digital (firewire) signal. Works really well, plus, if you like, you can edit the contents using something like Premiere or Pinnacle Studio.

I did the firewire/camcorder thing with my living room PC, but capturing into windows media encoder, then streaming it (live) on my PC in my office. I then have a set of those RCA remote extender/rebroadcaster things... works great. =)

Actually, they are fairly reasonable. A passable one runs about $300. Check www.amazon.com and www.pricegrabber.com .
