Help with dvd burner install
Just installed the Buslink dvd +rw, -rw burner that I purchased form Staples for $99 into my Dell Win 98, 500 Mhz machine, replacing the OEM CD burner that came with it. The install itself went ok, but when I try burning a cd (wanted to try cd first so as not to waste dvd media), it seems to run thru it ok, but at the end the cd is not playable in any type of player.
I also tried Nero and the original Adaptec software and same results. Which points to the hardware, but what aspect of it? I set the jumper first to slave, then CSEL to match what the OEM drive had. Same results. Please help or point me to a place where I can ask this question to the appropriate group if this is not the one. Thanks in advance... |

If I understand what you mean, the CD self-ejected. There was not really anything to 'close' on screen, as the status just went back to pre-burn level.
Please expand if I have not understood you properly. Thanks. |

If you use Nero to burn a data cd enable the write verify option. It's an option that shows up after you start the burn.
Another thing is that since you are using an older machine it may not properly support the UDMA interface. There is usually a jumper that can disable that function, but it is not always shown in the manual. You may have to contact buslink to see if there is a way of disabling UDMA. |

I purchased a NEC 1300A and had many problems with it until I upgraded the firmware.
