The first one is dslreports, the second one I don't know, and the third is pretty obvious.

Lucky you. My local Comcast service has really been lousy of late. In the evenings, I get download speeds of about .5mbps . I submitted a complaint from the Comcast web page tonight, and their tech support asked me to send back some test results (ipcfg, tracert, and ping). My suspicion is that the loop I'm on has been oversold.

[edit]
Just received a reply back from Comcast:
My engineers are reporting back to me that we have a documented slow speed and intermittent connection problem in your area of IL this past week. We have not been given an estimated time when the problem will be fully resolved, however engineers are trying to resolve this issue as fast as possible. I appreciate your patience and I apologize.

Ya, my connection is just like that. I think they are overselling the connection as well.

Bresnan upped their rates, too. I get 3.5mbps down and 278 up on dslreports. NOthing like downloads at 370kB/sec.

On another note, something happened to our 1.5/768 dsl connection at work and it now reports as 8/1.1 Dsl reports: 7532 down, 900 up. Not bad for $160/mo from a small local provider. I downloaded 40mb in under a minute, about 720kB/sec. So neat.

Well, Comcast seems to have solved whatever issue was slowing my speeds down. I'm back to downloading at about 215KBps (which is 1500+kbps).

The upgrade hit the northwest suburbs of Chicago yesterday:

Before resetting the modem:

2004-01-28 23:01:09 Speed test @ dslreports-west1.speakeas 1067/231 kbps

After resetting the modem:

2004-01-28 23:08:47 Speed test @ dslreports-west1.speakeas 3018/241 kbps

Sweet!

I think cable would fly where i live since no one in my neighborhood has it. However i went with dsl since it had a much better upload (768Kb) and no restrictions (perfect for a server)

Hey Snotrocket,
Do you have optimum online? I get around 7500/900 on it.

man, i wish i could get some cable like that. how much are you guys paying for that? im paying around $45 for 2Mbps down and i live in the sticks so there arent that many others out here. that 2M is after upgrades from 1.5 a few months ago. unfortunately that 500k increase came with a price increase too.

I have Optimum Online and I get 10Mbps. When downloading from high speed newsgroups I can usually get ~900KB a sec.

Its cable and I pay $45 a month.
