why wont my computer turn off auto. on shut down?
i got a P2 350Mhz running on XP home.
when i shut down the display says "it is now safe to turn off your computer" Questions: 1) why wont it turn off automatically like other computers? how can i make it do this? 2) when i now hold the power button to turn it off, it turns back on automatically in about 3 minutes. weird. i have been unplugging it at the back of the computer to make it stay turned off. please help me!!! thanks. |

Hmm...is there an option in the power management group that says on shutdown turn off pc or go to hibernate or sleep mode? I dunno...I'm just throwing out ideas out of my butt.

More than likely it is not an ATX compatible power supply and/or motherboard. AT systems dont support most of the newer power features.

But like mcs328 said, there are settings which can affect whether an ATX system will power down. I've had some older Dell systems at work that wouldn't power off (especially when running NT), but Dell had some software add-on that would enable them to power off.

Hmm...I didn't see it was a p2 350. Man that is slow...and running XP also. Do you use it to surf the net?

Could be a conflict with one of the pieces of hardware. I fixed a similar problem by updating a network card driver. You might want to check that out.

Just FYI, sometimes you can get an older machine to use the XP power features with a simple bios update.
