harddrive failing??
ok, so lately one of my harddrives has been giving me problems. i transfered data over to my 160gig maxtor for back up. then the past few days i've been trying to sort the data (putting it in folders on other harddrives).
well, i was getting close to the end and then i get a few errors. like "can't open folder because it's not empty". which of course makes a whole lot of sense. so when i restart, checkdisk runs (thank god for something that somewhat works). i can then continues transfering the last few of the files. then same problems. so i restart and check disk runs again, fixes. and i repeat. now in windows, with me not even using the harddrive, i get errors saying to run chkdsk on my harddrive. i think it's failing, think i should RMA it to maxtor? |

You'll have to run diagnostics on it before you can return it, so you might as well give that a try first. On the Maxtor site, you should be able to find a download section where you can grab the disk diagnostic utilities. They'll let you create a boot floppy that you'll start your machine with, and then you can run the utility.
If it's bad, make a note of the error it returns, and THEN call Maxtor. If it comes back with no errors, re-partition & re-format it & it should be fine. |
