It's a powerbook alright. Looks like either a 500 or 667 mhz G4 variety.

This isn't the first time it's happened. I remember a Windows XP ad while back that had a beige Mac in it.

http://macobserver.com/images/news/2...p/powermac.jpg

I also remember another MS ad that had a G3 Powerbook in it, but I can't find it now.

What it comes down to is that whoever does marketing at Microsoft probably wouldn't notice if they used a C64.

its even more ironic that its on a page about security, and some recent report said BSD based systems including Mac OS X based servers were more secure than linux and windows based machines. This report also found Windows more secure than linux. I should also note that this report was based on breasches of security, not virus infections.

report link:
http://www.mi2g.net/cgi/mi2g/framese...s/190204_2.php

article on report:
http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/top_n...fm?NewsID=7980

The image MS is using is just a basic piece of stock photography. Since most firms use macs, its not suprising they are used in more image libraries. I doubt MS realized it was a mac.

There's nothing ironic about an Apple computer at Microsoft.

You may remember the news story of how one of MSoft's low level workers took pictures of a truckload of G5's and thought he was exposing some kind of scandal. Lots of people forget that Microsoft develops software for Apple, primarily Microsoft Office.

... they're going to need an Apple to develop it! This isn't a response to ribitch's irony about the security/BSD thing, just don't be surprised to find a Mac at Microsoft.

Yeah, I think they bought a huge pile of it back in '95 or '96. Don't know if they're still holding it.

I remember seeing a cartoon about it where Bill Gates was yelling at his finance guys, "SNAPPLE! I said $50 million worth of Snapple!"

Wow ribitch, I wish I would spend all day looking for miniscule ways to show that somehow, Mac's are so great just because I feel inferior. Props to you buddy!

As I have asked before and you have NEVER answered. What is your point of posting this stuff here? I think that you are perhaps the only person on the board who is fanatical about apples and all you try to do is point out some little information to do what? Somehow prove that you are superior? Make yourself feel better? Somehow justify Jobs' massive ego and the zealous behavior of his followers?

Sheesh dude, give it up. These Apple vs PC/MS threads are about as good as Ford Vs Chevy.

Just to prove how little you care about facts or truthful numbers I can shoot a hole in your nice little idea of a zealot world.

The mere fact that that study used absolute numbers instead of %'s points out that the people who created it were nothing but people who wanted ONE computer to look better. Sure, I can say that I have more wealth than the next guy because I hold 50 pears. But how many pears are there originally? 50? 100? 10000? 100000000000000?

If there are 500000 pears, than I only hold 1/1000 of the wealth.

Now, that was 2nd grade example. If there are 1000 macs and 10000 linux machines and there are 10% broken into, that would mean 100 macs were hacked and 1000 linux boxes were hacked. Now, according to your all knowing site, that would mean that linux is 10x more likely to get hacked!

BRILLIANT!

Even if there were 0 macs that got hacked. WHere were those macs located? WHo was running them? Were the ones selected to be monitored ONLY used by people who patched on a schedule?

Thins study is nothing more than another attempt at zealots to show that their pathetic machines cannot keep up with anything else in the real world. All it is is FUD that is vield behind the usage of absolute numbers. There is no concern for scientific validity or comparable per-capita numbers.

Again, what is your point of posting this trash?

he'd have to stop posting all together then cause damn near every post of his i read he's bashing someone. Not to say i don't agree with his point about ribitch's apple threads (sometimes kinda excessive). But, to each his own.

why do i post it, well i think its funny to see you bust a nut like you do. I dont go searching for this stuff, but when i do see something that i think is funny, like the above, or can get some kind of reaction, then i will post it. There is so much more out there i could post, like his:
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/...=1078806214000

You must admit, it is ironic that MS posted a site about security and used a mac in its images, or they posted an image about gaming and used an ancient powerbook. I dont see other computer and or software companies using images of machines that their hardware and or software does not run on.

MS software does run on Mac OS. Ever here of Office and Internet Explorer? All have been developed for Mac OS, why do you think MS bought a share in Apple(other then to keep it afloat to avoid anti-trust charges)

Since your a MAC person I'm sure you're aware that most designers use stock photography. Very few marketing departments take their own pictures.

I agree with snotrocket.. BFD.

As far as security.. go lookup all of the security updates for BSD. Then compare that list to Apple's security updates. Seems like OSX isn't all that secure if it's missing a bunch of updates.

While you're looking at BSD's security updates go look at Solaris, RedHat, Windows, etc... they all put out about the same number of security updates. If you or your sysadmin (or in the case of MAC, Apple since they have to incorporate BSD updates and Apple updates) isn't keeping up with those updates your are far more at risk than a competing OS that has been updated.

Excuse me, but you originally stated that no MS SOFTWARE ran on a Mac, you did not speicfy Win XP or any other MS OS. They can be made to run on a Mac, but not natively though.

I don't think you can just buy a bare-bones mac system (just hardware). If you buy a mac it comes with the OS
