DVD Burners getting too cheap... something must be on the horizon... what is it?

8x DVD burners are getting too cheap. What's coming up that would drive the price down to the $75 range (AR).

Dual-Layer, perhaps?

Other?

Dave.

Sony announced their dual layer products will begin rolling out later this year. I expect it to be a few hundred bucks though. Not too sure if it's worth THAT much

Sony's BlueRay 27GB DVD discs are coming out, but I heard about that maybe a year ago, so I haven't heard much since

I'm not buying anymore DVD burners (dual layer or 12x or 16x) until price comes down to 4x burner level.

us clippers fans really do think alike.

With the competing dvd standards and the compatability issues with standalones and burned discs, I will wait at least a year after dual layer burners are released to see how things are shaping up. If more and more companies are adopting a dual layer technology and standalones will be able to read them, then I will buy into the new stuff. Until then, i'll settle with my 4x burner.
