Enter Radeon X800!

http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/prod...71XN9HSTJ27C2#

ATi RADEON X800 PRO 256MB DDR AGP8X TVO/DVI (Retail)
Built by ATi
12 parallel pixel pipelines
256-bit quad-channel GDDR3 memory Interface
8 extreme parallel pixel pipelines
6 parallel vertex processing engines

Our Price: $499.00

Ok so this a shady store trying to presell a product thats not even out. They are claiming its twice as fast as the Radeon 9800pro, which I doubt it is and with the NDA's only a few people outside of ATI really know... Anyways heres a picture. Meet the new boss same as the old boss...

Looks like a 9800 but its the same pic that was released by ati according to people at AT.

I wouldn't necessarily rule out the "twice the performance of R9800" comment -- although this probably will only be true in certain situations (shader-intensive games like FarCry, etc.) Look at the numbers for the Geforce 6800, and under certain cases you'll also see a 2x improvement over nVidia's own 5950 Ultra.

Hopefully it will not require as much power as the NVidia card (480 watts recommended plus two power connections needed) so you don't need to also upgrade the power supply. That adds to the cost as well. There is not supposed to be an x800 non-pro at this time. Perhaps with the extra pipelines enabled (Pro will have twelve and the XT 16) they will make a non-pro out of the ones that have trouble with the extra pipelines and disable them. The x800 XT is expected about a month later with sixteen pipelines (instead of twelve) and a faster clock speed (800mhz). There will also be an SE version and a PCI Express. If the Pro is $499, will the XT be $599? Or will the pro price be lowered when the XT comes out? Unlike the NVidia, the ATI cards will not have Shader 3.0 capabilities. But NVidia is reported to have cheated on their demo of the benefits of Shader 3.0, showing a comparison not of 3.0 with 2.0, but 2.0 with 1.0 so it is not known if 3.0 will offer any better imaging anyways. We will have to wait until the cards are actually out and real comparisons can be made. Either way, it looks like both companies have made a major leap in video cards.

Looks like the r420 really does perform well (and in a single slot / single power connector solution to boot).

HardOCP even mentioned that it uses LESS power than the 9800XT.

Yup, the new ATi cards have destroyed Nvidia, AGAIN. I'll be buying the X800XT as soon as it retails.

Nvidia is seriously pathetic now.

Have you seen any tests comparing the 2? It's kinda early to be making those kinds of assumptions...

Supposedly the Nvidia 6800 got caught for cheating again on the benchmarks.

Yes, go to Hardocp. They have head to head benchies. The X800XT slaugheters the 6800u.

The 3DFX curse continues for Nvidia.

ATI is also having a contest giving away a complete system with an x800 Pro or one of four X800 cards. Details here: http://buy.ati.com/myprofile/contest_na.asp
