best firewire card chipset?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a good firewire card. What is the best, chipset to look for (via, nec, ti, etc.)?

I am looking for one that is affordable, but that wont give me problems.
I read in a couple of places that the via chipset isnt as good as others. Any suggestions?

The reason why I want a firewire card is that my Triumph Aluminum external enclosure here w/ the Ali usb chipset is getting buggy so I want to use the oxford 911 firewire instead. BTW, if you are looking for an external enclosure, stay away from enclosures which use ali chipsets as there are numourous reports of people getting errors.

Thanks in advance,
sxm

hey ribitch,

after reading your reply, i found this one: Koutech KW-582V2 based on the TI chipset for $24 shipped.

the firewire 800 is a little over the top for me in terms of price, and the specs. I dont plan to use FW800 anytime soon.

thanks alot for your help.

One more vote over here to go with a chipset made by TI, and just a fyi if you do ever get into fw800 devices. Go for the ones with the oxford 912 chipset not the 922. 922's have had some bugs and apparently the 912 chipset has fixed a lot of the bugs plus is even speedier.
