DVD-R to TV?

i'm not very savvy when it comes to the comp components. i got a verto ti 4200 graphics card as a gift, and it has a tv out (s-video).

when i get my new comp, i'm gonna install the card. and i'll have a dvd-r installed on the comp. is it possible to connect it to the tv? is it recommended? will there be any probs i should be aware of?

thanx in advance

i just realized, my tv is an old tv, no s-video. rca, yes. but s-video? no.

So by "connecting it to the TV" are you saying a "direct burn" of a captured TV show to a CD-R?

If so.. then no, I don't think that you will be able to do that directly.

However, if you capture your TV program as an .AVI or a .MPEG file to your hard drive, then that format can be burned to a DVD -R or to a CD as a VCD when using the appropriate software (Personally, I use PowerDirector Pro by Cyberlink... since that software came with my TV card)

Is this something that you want to be able to play in your standard stand alone DVD player? If so... be sure to check what formats your player can handle, then you can make the determination as to how you want to copy this video to disk.

sorry, i didn't make myself clear.

i just moved to this new place. and i didn't get a tv until a couple of days ago (borrowed from my godbrother). but i don't have a dvd player either. so i'm wondering if my dvd-r on the computer will do the task, or if i'm gonna have to buy a dvd player.

i just want to see if it's possible/a good idea to hook up the computer to the tv. and if it'll allow me to watch my dvd movies.

that's all

tia df or whoever helps

Yes... a DVD "player" in your computer can function as a normal DVD...

Since you have "TV-OUT" on your video card, then you can probably watch it on your TV... however in my past experience with the "TV OUT" function, you might have to disconnect the monitor in order for your TV OUT to work. I never could get TV-OUT and my monitor working at the same time on either of my PCs (one has a GeForce4 the other has an ATI Radeon)

Sorry about gettin' confused on your previous inquiry.

I had to physically disconnect the monitor plug from the back of my video card.

Please don't ask me why... however with it plugged in, it never would initialize the "TV OUT" output.

I never had that problem, the video card has a din connector with cables. RCA, s-video, etc. I had no problems running the monitor while the signal was going to the tv as well. In fact, I could have the dvd software on the monitor and the picture on the tv.

Consider yourself "lucky"...

Both my upstairs PC and my downstairs PC won't do it...

It is especially weird since they both use different brands of video cards. But hey, if you can get it to work while the monitor is connected... more power to the people.

I have the dell dimension 8300 with nvidia 4200 FX and it works great with both the monitor and s-video output. As i also have a old TV with no s-video input, i bought a s-video to composite converter from ebay and with the overlay function, i do not even have to change the resolution of my screen for the output to TV. As soon as i open something in media player like windvd or windows media player, it automatically shows as full screen on my TV.
