I have a question...

Ive got the Radeon 9600 128mb MOBILE in my laptop, and I went to go check the drivers and found this page: http://www.ati.com/support/products/...ops/index.html

They say that Dell is the only place i can get new drivers!!!! Is this true?

Yes - nVidia does the same thing. Dunno why, but it sure is annoying.

Google "Omega ATI Drivers"

Find the Omega Zone, download the right OS.

I'm confused right now. So let me get this right. Official ATI drivers are called Catalyst, but other people make their own version off of the Catalyst, Omega, being an example. What are the pros and cons between different drivers?

I have a 128mb 9800 pro that came with my DELL. Now i'm just trying to figure out what to do.

If you have a NVidia NForce motherboard, they just released a new driver suite for that too. Here is the one for Windows XP: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_4.24
For other NVidia drivers, try www.nvidia.com

This newest set gives more control over audio options and has a new control panel for it. I was having some sound problems when gaming sometimes. With this and the ATI update, things seem to look and sound a little bit better on games. I had the Omega drivers, but since I am not overclocking my card, I decided I liked the Catalyst better. I was having issues with the Far Cry demo at higher resolutions, but no more.

I do not know what the specific differences are, but drivers like the Omegas are made by people who tweek the official drivers.
