Internet Connection Sharing not working (over WLAN)

Relevant information:
+ 56K dialup connection to modem on Desktop1
+ ICS is turned on, which sets Desktop1's IP addy to 192.168.0.1
+ I set the router's IP addy to 192.168.0.254
+ Tried setting the router to "Access Point Only" mode, that didn't work either
+ My laptop is trying to use the WLAN access point to use the dialup (I've done it before, but now I can't figure out how I did it before!)
+ Laptop can get a 192.168.0.X IP, so that checks out

How can I get my laptop to use Desktop1's internet connection? What did I forget?

never done it before...If you're using XP pro, it looks like you may have to select how you want to share the connection in the ICS subwindow. (Under Home Networking Connection, which is just below the ICS checkbox.)
Didja do that?

I do have XP Pro on both computers... I'm trying to run the Home Networking Wizard right now. The "ICS subwindow" you speak of... usually I right click on the 56K connection, Properties, Sharing, then check the box for ICS...

Right...look just below the box. Do you have a dropdown? I guess it's more of a section inside the properties window.

The PC's can see each other through Windows networking, the above settings are in place for ICS, so what else can I do to get my laptop online??

Should I check out any router settings? DHCP, Use only as Access Point, Dynamic vs. Static, etc.?

EDIT: One more thing, Desktop1's connected to Port 1 on the wireless router, not WAN... i think that's right

I have no idea what I did, but it worked! I noticed on my laptop there was a new item in "My Network Places" that said "internet gateway on Desktop1" ...

NOT working again! It worked for 15 minutes, then it stopped.

I manually set the "Default Gateway" on my laptop's wireless connection to be 192.168.0.1 (address of Desktop1), and the "internet gateway on Desktop1" popped back up again, so I was thinking it would work! but no...what on earth am i missing?

Sorry I didn't get back to you. That drop down I was talking about has mysteriously disappeared. I have NO idea what happened to it. Weird.

Anyway, did you bridge your two connections in WinXP? Maybe that's the key.

I found out it was a bum router. I tried hooking it up once I got back to my apartment in Virginia (cable modem), and the routing function didn't even work for the wired computers. Went out and bought a Microsoft 802.11b router on clearance and it works fine now

Thank you for your help though
