Actually, I have a power supply tester... Unfortunately, you ain't in Indianapolis so that I can help you diagnose whether or not your P/S is shot.
But you can get one here yourself for $9.95 plus shipping if you like: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ATX-PT

If the fan is truly on and the mobo reports it's not on then I'd suggest flashing the bios to a newer version and see if that helps. If not, sounds like your motherboard is shot. Why the new powersupply didn't work is strange tho'.

Honestly, I think your mobo might be fried...
If it was working fine before and just now stopped working... then I don't think that a flash is gonna fix it. Is this a brand new computer? Or has it been around for awhile and is just now giving you problems? |

Hey DF,, he said his new powersupply didn't even post but the old one did. It's worth a shot at flashing it before giving up the ghost. It's a simple thing to attempt to correct his problem. If his motherboard is fried, it's fried, but it's worth checking. I love your positive attitude.

I've never even heard of "incompatible power supplies"... generally either they work or they don't (with a variance for wattage... of course. ) Positive attitude or not, it just sounds like his mobo was making it's last <BLIP>. ![]() BTW... he never said if it got past POST and into Windows. If he can't boot to windows, then how is he gonna go download a new flash file? On top of that, if his P/S quits on him in the middle of flashing... well then, that's all she wrote. I guess I'm just saying... the outlook just ain't good here. The new P/S shoulda worked if the old one was bad. The ATX main connector is pretty standard... and unless he is using an Intel chip (with the square 4 pin power connector), then I don't see why even the new P/S failed... Beeps from the mobo state that something is wrong... maybe his RAM came unseated. Maybe the video card is loose? It could be a bunch of things once the P/S has been eliminated as the fault. But still... I don't quite get what a "flash" has to do with the P/S... I've never had to do that, but hey, I'm not saying that it "couldn't" be the problem... I just don't personally think that it will fix it (but that's just me. ) |

Either way... you may wanna keep an eye on that. Cause if that fan stops spinning, your CPU is toast (and it only takes a few minutes to fry... especially with an AMD chip) |

It seems that the bios went on the blink. If it's 4 years old the bios battery maybe getting weak. Spend a couple bucks to replace that just in case. Does your HSF plug into your motherboard or into a molex power cable. Most 3rd party HSF use a molex plug because the power they draw may burn out the mb fan connector. Anyway, the MB bios should a setting to disable that cpu fan warning and that may have been reset if the bios went out.
