Sound Card problems
so i just got the Audigy2 ZS sound card, along with the Creative Inspire 5400 speakers. i installed everything, and it was ok for a bit. suddenly the music stopped and just beeped forever. 1 nonstop beep. so i stopped the music, and played again. everything was fine.
later i opened winamp again, and tried playing and got an error saying that the ouput device was not found. so i go to the settings and try selecting the new card, but it's not even in the options. it wasnt detected. i could still hear error message beeps, and IM's and stuff, but nothing else. I reinstalled the drivers to the c:/ (i had installed to my 2nd drive the first time), and it's been working fine. except that every now and then the music pauses and it beeps for about 1 second and then the music keeps playing. help??? i'm running xp pro.

Sounds like something is definately wrong. Is your PCI slot's IRQ shared with another slot with an active device like a network card?

On my Asus mobos... I always put the soundcard on PCI slot #5...
Depending on what slot the sound card is in, I'd try moving it to a different one and seeing if you still encounter the problem. Worst case scenario, go out to the Creative website and download updated sound drivers for that card. Good luck... ![]()

how would i be able to find out if it's shared or not? also, if i move my PCI cards around, will it somehow mess it up since i installed the software with the card in a specific slot, so the machine knows where it is? or does it really matter? i moved some cards around when i installed the soundcard, bit it hasnt affected anything. i'm just wondering if it'll be worse for the soundcard since it's already acting buggy. common sense tells me it doesnt matter, but i just wanna make sure. plus, my senses are all screwed up ![]() |

so esdee helped me out, and hopefully i wont be experiencing those beeps again.
he basically told me to try taking the card out, reboot, and put the card in again, and hopefully it'll fix it. so was doing that, and this is my log of what i IM'ed esdee with about my little incident while doing that. all because i was lazy and didnt wanna disconnect the speaker cables. DankNstickY (12:37:46 AM): holy **** i just had the worst scare. i thought i fried my mobo or something DankNstickY (12:39:11 AM): i pulled the card out, but i decided to keep all the speakers connected to it. so it was pulled out but the 'connectors (not sure what they're called) from the speakers were still connected. they were just coming into the tower from the back. DankNstickY (12:40:00 AM): the comp started, but the screen started flickering and doing a bunch of weird ****. then the comp just shut off DankNstickY (12:40:06 AM): and i smelled a burnt smell DankNstickY (12:40:56 AM): it was the cables from the speakers that were touching something i guess. cus i could hear a humming noise when i moved the cables around the vid card or something then he explains to me that i almost electrocuted myself. heh. yay for being lazy. i also moved the card to a diff pci slot in hopes that it will fix it. |
