Backing up

Hi,

Please could someone recommend a good system for backing up a 180GB hard drive. Is the best thing to just get a USB hard drive and copy everything across once a week or is there a simpler alternative such as something that backs up your work whilst you're going along?

Thanks,
Joe

well...i just got a maxtor one touch usb2/firewire drive and it has a button that will back up everything you specify everytime you hit the button. It's kinda neat, although it runs Retrospect, which is clunky and odd, but still it's a pretty sweet piece of hardware.

Another alternative would be to get a second hard drive and a copy of "Norton Ghost" (which can be bought separate or is included in the Norton Systemworks Professional package) and then just back up your system from one disk to the other.

That's your best bet...since Ghost give you great compression. You may only need a 60GB drive.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have Norton SystemWorks installed, so using Ghost shouldn't be a problem.

If the drive isn't an OS drive, you just use MSbackup (start >> programs >> accessories >> system tools >> backup) and select what files you want to be backed up. Schedule it and forget it.

For drive imaging, at work I use Instant Recovery. It's actually pretty nice, backs up over the network, etc.
