X-Box HD's clonable?

My bro-in-law has a modded xbox... and lots of emulators and games on the HD... very cool. Can I take a ghost image of that HD and then apply it to another HD and have it work? Assuming that the other xbox is also modded?

With crap like this going on its no wonder companies want to cripple their own systems by not including a HD...

You could do so by connecting your xbox to your network, then FTP all your information on the Xbox HDD to your comp HDD. Connect second Xbox, FTP all to second Xbox's HDD.

Except you'd already need your modded dashboard (EVOX or the like) set up to be able to FTP.

Some of us believe that once we pay for a system, it's ours to tweak and change as we like.

Agreed... But when you download the games instead of buying them, you are cutting out the profits for the game companies. Since companies dont make much on systems (sometimes losing money) this hurts them greatly... do you want Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to not make consoles anymore because they arent making profit on them? If everybody did what is suggested here, I guarantee they wouldnt.

Some people do it for emulators (still illegal btw), but there's a good number of people who do it for the illegal XBOX games too. Even though not every person with a modified box uses it for this purpose, I'm sure it's a pretty high percentage.

Thank you kei2. I would aslo like to point out that modding your system for any reason is illegal, reguardless of its use, thank to a communications act passed under former president Bill Clinton's watch. Once we start breaking laws we dont agree with, why not start raping, murdering, and looting (as long as its a for something you believe in.)

EDIT: Act is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, not the communications act.

In other news the Screensavers had like 4 segments on how to mod your xbox.

Lets keep in mind it is legal to talk about doing illegal things under our constitutional rights.

And I suppose you don't speed either!

Some laws are just plain stupid.

You are forgetting that modding an Xbox to work with other software it was not intended to work with falls into the reverse engineering gray area that was put into place to encourage competition and interoperability of hardware and software.

This is the same motivation that forced MS to capitulate to access of the Windows OSs to other browsers like FF.

Dave.

To annswer your question, Ghosting may work, but since harddrives get locked and unlocked within xbox, it might be a bit more messy. The reccomendation of using the ftp ability is probably the best suggestion that has been mentioned. Just make sure you have a copy of the game you are emulating and then the Copyright Police won't come busting the doors down.

Thanks all. Yeah, I'm talking about things like Street Fighter for SNES... stuff like that (which I do own... somewhere).

Is anyone familiar with FTP'ing to an xbox? Any weird installs required on the xbox besides the dashboard to make the EMUs work? Or just the file transfer? To a specific location?

Dave.

Dave.

If you get the evo dashboard it will let you transfer files just like a regular ftp client. You just need to have them both wired into a newtowrk and know what ip to look for and you should be good. I pulled some home video clips off my pc onto my xbox so i could take it to my family reunion. And as far as chips i would say take a look at console corner as they have a wide variety of prices and ease of install/use level.
