How to make desktop Wireless?

I have bought a desktop recently. How can I make sure that it is wireless capable? I am planning to buy a wireless router and I want to make sure that my desktop works without using all those cables? I do have a T card installed. I am not too familiar with new techs so any help is appreciated. Thanks

sanju,

the easiest way would be to purchase a USB wireless adapter when you purchase your wireless router. You simply plug it into your USB port and pop in the cd that comes with it and it will install all that you need to get it up and running on your wireless network. You just have to decide whether you want to go with Wireless G or Wireless B. The wireless G products have been coming down in price (check this week's Best Buy add), just make sure if you purchase a Wireless G router to take advantage of the speed you should purchase a Wireless G USB network adapter to go along with it.

Hope this helps.

Well actually... you have 2 choices.

Yes, you could go with a USB adapter.... or you could go with a PCI adapter as well.

Personally, "range wise" I've had better luck with the PCI adapters (as they generally tend to have longer antenna... and in some cases, since the antenna is removable, you can even get a longer one for better reception)

Right now, I am using a Netgear PCI adapter (and I'm sure there are others that will work just as well): http://www.netgear.com/products/prod...odID=208&view=
(About $34 after rebate at Amazon.com)

or as stated before, you can get a USB adapter... (which also is easier to move from PC to PC as well...)

(About $60 at Amazon.com)

I'm using a Belkin PCI wireless adapter (802.11g) with my desktop. Just install the card into the PCI slot, install the driver, and set it up just like you set up a PCMCI or USB wireless adapter.

IMO pci cards are more reliable than the usb adapters.
