Tell me... is my RAM f**ked?

I set my RAM timings from 7-3-3-2 or something to 2-3-3-2 (my fault, I know).

All HECK broke loose since then, and whenever I open up a new program in Windows, everything else will come to a crawl for about 5 seconds while it loads the new program (e.g. when I have winamp playing and I open Outlook, winamp will stutter and the mouse will be stagnant until Outlook opens).

Did I fry my RAM? I have 2 sticks of 256MB PC3200 on an Asus A7N8X mobo. I took out one stick, tried it, took out the other, tried it, and they both exhibit this behavior of making my system crawl.

I'm posting this from my machine, but I can't push it or my PC will blow up! Does this mean my RAM is broken?

That's weird. Usually RAM works or it doesn't. I've never heard of ram being crippled due to excesive heat/electricity.

I tried SANDRA but no negative results.

My friend who doesn't know as much about PC's as Corsec does (Corsec said it was probably the RAM) told me that this is what happens right before your hard drive craps out. Any truth in that?

I have no idea what to replace! It seems like a hardware problem, but since I've backed everything up anyway, is it even worth it to just try a fresh install of Windows XP?

I couldn't figure the darn thing out... i put the files from the package on a bootable disk and tried to run it, but it wouldn't run. Maybe that's the sign that it's bad?

It happens, but usually you get wierd spin-up-spin-down and clicking from your HD when it's almost poop.

That's what I thought... No weird sounds coming from it, it's an 80GB Maxtor 8MB cache one.

I guess my question is, should I reformat in hopes that it's a software issue?

Or does it sound like a RAM (hardware) problem?

Tragically, it sounds like a software issue. Backup, reformat, rent some movies.
