Do alternatives exist to cable companies for cable internet?
Like the title says...
I feel like my cable company has a monopoly-they just bumped my rate by $10 and I really want to do something to stick it to the man.

Some times you can get other cable internet providers through your cable company. I have a Time Warner cable hookup and they have their own internet service called Roadrunner, but I am using their cable to get Earthlink which is about eight or ten dollars less and I like much better anyways. I can get another one or two but can't remember who they are. Check with your cable company. I think that now they are required to offer alternatives. But I could be wrong on that.

If else fails, switch to DSL. Both SBC and Verizon provide 1.5 Mbps downstream for $30 or less.

I don't have a land line. Unless the DSL companies throw one in, I would have to pay for that on top of the DSL fee. |
