What's in a model number?

Looking to have a good Dell machine with possibly the 3.4 or 3.6 processor. Which base models do I want to stay away from? I know that the 2400 have integrated video and that is definitely something I want to stay away from.

Is there a huge difference in motherboards between the other models?

The 3000 is the 2400 replacement so stay away from that if you want to upgrade your video card. The 4700 and the 8400 are good.
