Lexar Jump Drive on Deals Page

It seems like a great deal, but there is no software. Windows XP detects flash drives. What do you do in Windows 98?

It should have driver for Win98 SE. I don't think Win98 supports USB.

Win 98 (first edition) definitely supports USB. I have also loaded many Win98 SE drivers (for such things as Lexar Jump Drives or Sandisk Cruzers) without any problems.

You're welcome... but honestly, there is nothing wrong with XP... 98 on the other hand was a major PITA in my opinion.

If you don't get any viruses. it's probably OK.

I got the sasser virus about 6 months ago. It was probably my fault, since I hadn't installed any antivirus software. Well, the virus kept rebooting my computer and slowed down everything to a crawl.

I gave it to a programmer friend of mine who had the computer for a couple of weeks. He gave up after trying everything. So I just used another computer for surfing the Net.

I decided last week to install McAfee 2004. It didn't even find the virus. I had one heck of a time just trying to connect to Internet Explorer. As soon as I connected, it would shut down my computer.

So I used the restore disc which came with my laptop. Guess what? After I went through the process, the virus was still there!! I couldn't believe it.

Fortunately, I was able to get online for a few minutes to download PcCillin which found it and may have quarantined all of the folders. But I am still waiting for something to happen any day now.

The programmer friend of mine hates Window XP. He says that the redundancy which is incorporated into XP makes it practically impossible to find and isolate these kind of problems.

There has to be a reason that Service Pack 2 came out. It may be a little more stable than previous operating systems, but I will take my chances with 98SE. If I could find the drivers separately for the video and whatever I need, I would delete XP and install Windows 98SE.

of course there's a reason SP2 came out, just like there's a reaseon you have 98SE and not 98a.
