Dell 400SC surprised me...
So I got the bug this morning and wondered if my P4 1.6A would work in my Dell400SC (a i875 board, that should not accept 400MHz CPUs). I figured it would run it at 533 or not at all. To my surprise, it didn't even give out an error or anything. It just ran the 1.6A like it belonged there. (@400MHz)
Great news, as I will have a CPU for my Dell after I steal the 2.4C out of it to build my new computer around the Soyo Dragon2. http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80999 (Dead!Another FREE mobo (after rebate)-Soyo SY-P4I875PDragon 2 w FREE 2nd day shipping)

Yes... the i875 board is backwards compatible with all 2nd generation P4 chips (478 pins).
But of course, it won't handle any 423 pin P4s... ![]() That is one of the nice things about them... if you can afford to wait for the "higher end" stuff... you can just get by on low end stuff and build up the rest of your system. ![]()

Oh. I thought the standard i875 chipset only ran 533 and 800's. |

Just like when we had 533 boards that could step back to 400. |
