I just overheard someone at work talking about how you can convert a D-Link (either that or Netgear) 5 port switch into a full fledged Cisco Router with all the features.
He said someone came up with some firmware or something to accomplish this, and it's $10 to get it. They said the D-Link switch/router was $80 at Best Buy. Has anyone heard of this?

You can get aftermarket firmwire for the linksys G router I am sure of. Once website has a free version and another has a $10 version. It includes bandwidth managment and a whole slew of other features.

Yeah, if anything it's Linksys. They're owned by Cisco now. I would imagine it's only possible on newer models.

You are not flashing it with any Cisco software. It is actually just 3rd part firmware that was designed from the ground up.
Here is one that is free: https://sourceforge.net/projects/wifi-box/ Here is one that is $20 but might be easier to use: http://www.sveasoft.com/ |
