iPod is killing me.....

I never cared about organizing my MP3s' ID tags. I always just organized them by file name. Now that I have an iPod, I realize how much work I have to do. Although many of my songs had their ID tags already input, I still have thousands of songs that need updating.....Is this some way to punish those who obtain their music through illegal channels? Looks like I'm gonna be learning my lesson.

Is there any program that does this automatically??? What is the most efficient way to do this??

If you ever sit down to listen to your mp3s at your computer just redo a couple at a time. I'd sit down, rename 15-20 and then go about my business. Took a few weeks but I eventually got it done.

Ya, it sucks, but what are you gonna do?

FYI, there is no program available to do it automatically for you...

if you already have all your mp3's in the file format in the way you want it to look in the ID3 tags, use mp3 tag tools

it's what i used, since whenever i downloaded any mp3s, i always fixed the file to a format that I liked....u do "bulk" ID3-tagging with this app (by bulk, i mean you're whole folder at once, just let it sit and it'll do the rest)

plus it's freeware!!!!

if you have any questions, let me know

I suggest IrishSS' method. Doing that, I got my library of about 5000 down to 4200 and just about how I like it in a month and a half. I got rid of the poor quality rips, the repeats, the crappy songs, and forced me to re-rip a lot of my CDs to AAC, Apple Lossless, or a higher bitrate mp3 file.

Sure. That, and the sound quality of most of these college mp3s tend to suck.

BTW: I used to use Tag&Rename, and somewhere along the line, I installed something into windows to change tags in the files properties(right click-properties), but I don't know what that was.

Searched download.com and found an app called "Tag Scanner." I think it's like the app that g22leav recommended. It automatically writes the ID3 tags based on the file name. Although I never cared about ID3 tags, I was pretty religiously meticulous about naming the files in the "Artist - Title.mp3" format, so it worked out well for me. Got 4000 songs done in about 3 hours. iPod is up and running and I'm a happy camper.

thanks for everybody's input!
