Amd64 3000+

Mkay... quick question about this cpu
AMD64 3000+ socket 939
I have seen clock frequencies advertised anywhere from 1.8Ghz to 2.2Ghz on this processor, as well as it having lvl2 cache of 1mb .... which according to AMD they dont make a 1mb version of it??

So are these typo's everywhere, or are people taking 1.8 chips and overclockcing them to 2.0 to try to sell them?

i wish there was a 3400 1mb cache 1600mhz bus for the soket 939 then i wouldn't have to get the 3800 or better...

well, the AMD64 3000+ has 2.0ghz bus.. but according to AMD no 1mb cache

...so are the 2.0's actually 1.8's with different multipliers, or is it the other way around

if they're already overclocked, then i'll have to go up a couple models to get the base one so I can toy with some of the settings eventually

no sense in trying to oc an already oc'd chip

AMD64 3000+ (Winchester core) - socket 939 with 512KB cache @ 1.8Ghz
AMD64 3000+ (ClawHamer core) - socket 754 with 1MB cache for laptop @ 1.8Ghz
AMD64 3000+ (Newcastle core) - socket 754 with 512KB cache @ 2.0Ghz

They uses different core thus different clock speed but none of them is O/Ced.

thats one reason why AMD is fishy, sooner or later one or two of those different cores will disapear, or will they continue to make all three...

Intel is the same in the past with the P4 CPUs (A, B, C, and E).

MKay, so I'm gonna go with a 939 socket, and I was really hoping I could get a 2.0 ghz at the price of the 3000+.. which i've seen supposedly at 2.0 ghz on several sites, damnit

I guess go with the 939 socket 3200+?
I didnt see a 939 socket 3400 last time I checked, unless it defaults to that like some of the newer models??

I just bought a retail 939 (1.8ghz) 3000+ 64 l for $150 at Monarch computer. Also picked up the new DFI mobo nf4. Sweet combo for $300 and no tax in CA.

This should oc to around 2.5ghz on air.
