HeatSink Help pleeeeez

Alright, now that I've gone and purchased the mobo:

GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS Ultra-939" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL
$119.00 shipped at Newegg ( I love Newegg )

CPU as well....:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ Socket-939 90nm (model: ADA3200DIK4BI)
Frequency: 2.0Ghz
BUS: Internal 2.0Ghz
Stepping BI (winchester)
L2 Cache: 512K
( $188.00 shipped, PM me for link )

Now For the Heatsink, I bought the CPU OEM :/ not sure about that?? The only technical difference is the fact that it only has warranty through vendor and doesnt come w/ heatsink-fan assembly.

So what does everyone recommend? Noise isnt too terrible of an issue, however the computer is in my room (where I sleep, and unfortunately where I study ) so yeah.. I dont know exactly what 42dB is,??? and I cant 'simulate' it on my speakers hehe. So yeah, based on personal opinion and experiences, what's the best for say ~$30.00 or under.??
I dont intend on OC'ing for a while, but I am sure I will at some point, so I'd prefer to avoid having to buy another cooling assembly in the future.

$30.00 is what I have to work with, hopefully I can get thermal compound w/ the assembly???? I've seen it in some places. I suppose worst case I can borrow some from work, but still.

Uhh.. help pweeeeeeeeeeeez ?

thanks,

~Kyle

Oh yeah, forgot to add this one while I was looking for heat sinks/ fans etc... I stumbled across this beast:

Dynatron AMD K8 1U Blower (180 Degree)
Weight: 515 g
Heat Sink Material: Copper
Heat Sink Dimension: 100 x 74 x 27 mm
Blower Fan Dimension: 60x60x15mm
Rated Voltage: 12V DC
Speed: 7000 RPM
Air Flow: 8.1 CFM
Noise Level: 51.1 dBA
Bearing system: Double Ball Bearing
--Damn thats loud for what its worth lol.

just for reference's sake.. what are the dB ratings for those fans?? so i can compare to others. if you dont know I'm sure I've come across them already, in fact i know i've come across the silent boost, it is/was one that i was considering.
I don't mind hearing it, but if its loud enough to wake me up, then there are issues heh

crap.. gotta run to class.

I can't say I'm good at recommending a specific one but I've bought stuff from here http://svc.com/cpucoolers.html and they seem to have a good selection.

Updated: Thanks for the help guys..I know I didnt give many of you a chance to even post a reply, but I'm on a time crunch right now, and went with the quickest, cheapest, solution. I.E. Newegg Again

I went with this one:

Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC-L (has a blue led fan, which I'm gonna yank out, have enough colored fans in my computer )

$20 + $5 shipping

thanks,

~Kyle

Kyle, you also should consider getting some decent thermal compound. The heatsink may come with a heat-acting pad, but those usually are inferior. I'm not sure of all the latest and greatest, but the Arctic Ceramique (made by the Arctic Silver people) is what I would recommend as a good solution.

If anyone else is looking for a nice cpu cooler, amazon has the zalman 7700 for $33.
SVC had the Thermaltake XP-90 for $30 with code XP-90, but they are currently out of stock. Way lighter than my last couple of coolers cuz it's aluminum.

Warning: AS5 tends stick to the cpu. If your going to use AS5, run the system for a few minutes before removing heatsink and twist a little before removing it of you might pull the cpu out of the locked socket.

yes, the vantec fans are silent, but that's because the rpms are so low.
if you have enough of them, sure, they're nice.
for the cpu fan i'd reccomendthis

The zalman for $33 is much nicer imo.

I was going to ask about the thermal compound, I'm great with computers, but have no idea about brand names and whatnot for certain things.. mostly the stuff you dont buy everyday. Do you by chance have a How-To etc. website that would explain the best method of applying it? or is it just a 'put it on there' type thing. Also, I have seen by most people that the thermal compound's that Arctic Silver makes are the best... or best known at least. Will one tube work for one processor, or am I paying lie $11 for a tube that'll work for the 10 cpu's I wont buy in the next 3 years?

LOL so I ordered everything last night, and of ****ing course I goto the deals page, and there's this sale on the Zalman's and the new XP-90's by Thermalright. (for like 30 shipped instead of 50'ish ).... of course those from most websites are labled as 'back-ordered'
But you know guys.. that's totally my luck, so I'm not soo pissed about it lol

Personally.. I went with Arctic Silver 5.

What is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other?

Here is where I bought mine from... Hardcorecooling.com for $5.99 plus FREE SHIPPING!!! for a 3.5 gram tube.

That was the cheapest I could find it on the net... there may be cheaper elsewhere... but you'd have to go look for it.

Ask and it shall be revealed....

Arctic Silver instructions.. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

A small 3.5 gram tube has enough compound in it to do several CPUs... personally... unless you are a "professional" CPU reviewer or something... I wouldn't even bother buying anything larger than that. (As by the time you'd get through it... a newer version of of the compound may have come out by then.

/me eyes the half used tube of Arctic Silver 3 sitting in my PC toolbox.

Hi guys,

Need a somewhat compact heatsink recommendation since SP-90 doesn't fit on my MSI K8N Neo4 motherboard. Already got the panaflo 92mm fan. Thanks!!
