i don't think there is an advantage for either one but if you go USB you'll lose a USb port.

not to mention that usb sometimes doesn't work safe mode, but when you plug a mouse into a ps/2 port, you sometimes must restart to before it works

The only significant difference has to deal with Power saving mode, in which case, if you're using a USB mouse, and you don't have sufficient privaleges in your BIOS, then you will not be able to just move the mouse to take the system out of standby or sleep. You'd have to use your keyboard. Which, if also USB and not setup correctly.. yeah, I've done it once to be stupid, and definitely couldnt get outta standby, heh.

Go with whatever is cheaper. Either way there are ~$2 adapters you can purchase to conver one to another.... and they usually come free w/ your mouse/keyboard (they are interchangeable)

Sounds like you need another hub.

Are there any games in the house? I am almost 100% positive that USB is much better for gaming as it allows for more precision with the mouse. I find USB is easier to deal with than PS/2. My case has 8 USB ports and my LCD has 2.

USB or PS/2 shouldn't affect the precision of the mouse....

It does.
PS2 can poll at a maximum of 100Hz. USB on the other hand, can up that all the way to 2000Hz!

PS2 needs to die. Get a USB mouse.

usb. ps/2 is being phased out for a reason, its a legacy technology. sure you lose a usb port, but you can get hubs for like 5 bucks at microcenter.

I disagree with you here as well...

My old Boomslang 1000 stated that when using the PS/2 port versus the USB, there would be some minor performance loss...

Not enough to really make the mouse suck... but still... if you want every bit of precision from that mouse... you use the USB over the PS/2.

USB is hot swapable. you can unplug and plug your mous in while your PC is on. If you unplug and plug a PS2 mouse when the pc is on you will have to reboot the PC

Thank you!

I couldn't find this information when I looked real quick.

If you are using MS Word and AOL then PS/2 if fine.
If you are fragging all night in Counter Strike Source, then USB is what the doctor ordered!

Well you could always buy a powered external hub... and turn one USB port into four (or seven, if you get one of those hubs).
