The Perfect iPod? Until the next one.

Well I caved. I had a 30gb old old iPod. I upgraded to a Black 60 Video iPod.

The video is crystal clear.

You have all seen reviews or read about it by now, so here are a few pictures, with a super case to prevent scratching, the invisible shield.

369 +28 tax +25 case

Needs you a duster or a microfiber cloth too . I've played with it in the store with that one U2 video and it's very clear. The scratch thing on the black ones are very apparent though.

Did you get it from Target using the 10% off coupon or somewhere else for that price?

a coworker of mine bought one, and the video is amazing. He ripped the Big Lebowski in about 25 minutes. It looked great. The big question is the quality once on a TV.

What did he use to rip it? I tried this "Ipod media studio" and it sucks. Said it would output in MP4 from dvd, but never worked. Also, when I try to convert my mpeg videos using quicktime 7, I never get any audio, anyone know anything about this?

As for videos on TV, I used the Apple RCA cables for tv out into a HD tv. Obviously the iPod is not HD, now wouldnt that be sweet... Anyway it doesnt look half bad. The colors are off quite a bit, but clarity, it is good PQ.

i'd buy one if it supported more codecs/bitrates. Its a hassle re-encoding stuff.

"No, there is no version of HandBrake for Windows, please stop asking."

Sigh. Thanks for the link, though. Any options for Windows users?

Also, it took 6 days from ordering to receiving for me. I didn't do engraving though.

Converting... I am a converting maniac... All of Simpsons done, next > Family Guy

Windows use Videora (DVD to iPod)
Dual 3.0ghz 2 gig ram 30 min for a full dvd

Mac use Handbreak
1.1ghz 768mb ram 100min for a full dvd

www.invisibleshield.com
there is a good competitor but this is the only one I have seen on the sides and with a life time waranty. I put the ipod in my pocket carelessly with my keys... No scratches what so ever

Ya, I did the whole Jackass series last night with Videora... Lovin' it! SPigs turned me on to it as well as the invisible shield... did you use the water and soap method to put it on?

I'm debating whether I will pick one up when I'm back in the US in December or if I will wait until the trip after.

I've only had my 4G iPod for about a year and a half . . . was hoping to wait until at least 2 years, but the click wheel is already getting a bit funky with its movement. And, stupid me, I didn't buy it with my Blue card . . . so don't get the extra year of warranty.

I think I can live with it until July or so - though it would be really nice to have the video function for when I travel . . . stuck on long train or plane rides.

It's a great piece of hardware to have for travel, but be forewarned... when using it soley for video, I've heard you get about 3 hours of battery life.

Here is my review of the invisible shield.
I ordered on Friday Night, recieved Monday in Irvine, CA

>>>Professional envelope, I was concerned this was being done in a 16 year olds basement, which I would not be suprised if it is, yet the packaging looked better than the website. Alas the cards they include appeared to have scuffed and stained my Invisible Shield.

>>>I decided to apply the sheets and if I could see the scuff I would return it. Nothing to lose eh? For some reason I chose the back sheet first.

>>>I had soapy water ready, clean hands, dont worry about finger prints, you can't get them with the fluid. I probably used too much water, but it wasnt a concern, the back went on and air bubbles were removed after 3 trys, the corner tabs took some patience, but the back was pretty simple. I was happy it covered the sides, and the corners it doesn't cover, (maybe 4 .5 cm squares on the corners go uncovered) they are pretty tough to see or scratch. (About 15 minutes)

>>> On the front I removed the shields click wheel protector, I wanted the matte finish, and all plastic across makes it look like grandmas couch. It seemed to apply very nicely on the first try and was devoid of air bubbles. HOWEVER the sides that fold over are so tricky cause when you bend them over they would introduce air pockets to the top. It took 7 trys on top to achieve the perfection I was looking for. (About an hour of trying, maybe I am picky or just ######ed)

>>>Center button cover, 1 try 12 seconds. Looked great!

>>>Time to let the adhesive seal, against the instructions I powered it on, and it looked GREAT.

>>>Next day, some tiny tiny (I MEAN TINY, like .1mm ) air bubbles existed on the front edges and sides. Oh well.

>>>The plastic is quite tough, I even tried walking around without other protection with keys, no scratches so far. I may consider an alternative to protect the matte finish on the click wheel. The plastic prevents the iPod from slipping off slick surfaces as well.

>>>NO RAINBOW, not at all, I had seen the rainbow on my 3G with a PDA cover. SO if it is done correctly there is no rainbow effect.
>>>I considered Martin Field, No warranty, and it didn't cover the sides, I think the sides are just as important as the back for image and resale value.

>>>Overall Rating 8.5/10 (Tad Pricey, poor packing process, tough to apply for the average Joe) Would Reccomend.

>>> Some pictures for you
Here is my review with some pictures...

(It was asked if it will fit other cases and docks. Yes, just more snuggly)

If I could go back, I would use the martin fields front protector and this invisible shield side and rear protector.

I ordered and invisible shield so we will see how it goes when it gets here.

I'm using a program called PQ DVD to iPod converter to rip down movies.

So do the black Ipods show a lot of fingerprints like a PSP does?

I think the screen is a bit too small to be watching all the time.

well....i'd really only watch it for the plane ride to and from portland once/month.

at home i'd kinda rather watch the 50" HD samsung.

i guess i should just go over to BB and check one out.

You nailed it. Meh, Ill watch it at home. However on that note if I was on an airplane or a train I would use it, but it isn't for the gym or casual viewing too much trouble. iPod is for iMusic not iVideo.

Ya, that's what I use the video for... It really is a breath of fresh air fo r the constant plane rides. Listen to some music, watch a couple episodes of your favorite show, sleep a lil' bit if you can and before you know it, that damned 4.5 hr ORD-PDX leg is over with.

I've been trying to fly through Denver lately to get back to the West Coast... Two 2.5 hr flights is much nicer than a 1.5 and a 4.5. Alas, around Christmas United just doesn't like to schedule as many PIT-DEN flights as they do the rest of the year. Bastids...

Be careful. This time of year a lot of those northern airports get serious weather delays. Better to take the southern route if possible. It may be longer but worth it to not have flights cancelled.

When ya fly United, you basically end in in DEN or ORD at one point or another along your route, especially on cross-country treks. You really can't get to PDX from here unless you hit one of those two.

Just the way it goes... I've only been delayed due to weather once at ORD and never in Denver.

ord is terrible about getting delayed. so's atl for some reason.

i really like flying through dtw because the flights are almost always on time even in bad weather. they just know how to deal with it i guess.

I'm actually interested in the video ipod.

I haven't been a fan of the ipods since they came out, but an mp3 player that will let me watch episodes of family guy, or aqua teen hunger force and even clips of hockey games....really got me interested.

Back when RCA made that 15Gig Video/Music Player, I've been looking for a more affordable solution for a video/mp3 player. I've bought PDA's without getting the results I've wanted, considered buying a PSP but there's no way I know of to convert my videos to play on the PSP except using the sony memory stick and that's only 1gig worth, plus I hear the mp3 "function" isn't all that great on the PSP.

Now comes an Ipod which everyone says is the best way to listen to music, there's a million and one accessories for it, a huge following, and now it can play video and has a large hard drive. That's awesome.

If I could get it for ~220, I'd jump all over it. And I know the price won't be coming down to that ever, but hopefully with a combination of coupons and other deals, I can get it around that price one day
