USB Flash Drive recommendation?

I want to buy a 1 Gb (or larger) USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Can anybody recommend one that is:

1. small !!
2. can be hooked onto a key-chain ring
3. doesn't have a cap that can be lost.
4. doesn't have embedded security software

TIA!!

Wow, your third requirement makes it difficult to find a cheap 1gb drive. The 1GB SanDisk Cruzer Mini is at Amazon for only $69.88, but it does have the security software on it. I've used this model with no problems, but maybe you have a reason to not want that s/w on it.

I personally use a 1GB Lexar JumpDrive Sport 2.0... that generally meets all three of your requirements.

I bought mine from Amazon.. but currently they are out of the 1GB model..

The studio computers I'm using are really restricted. It won't let any outside program function, including security programs, thus not allowing the USB drive to be recognized at all. And I find it more convenient to have strightforward plug-n-play access, rather than waiting for the security to install itself and settle in.

edit: added one additional requirement above ^

Hell yeah on the Titanium. I've washed mine twice already, still tickin' . My ipod shuffle didn't fair so well in the wash though.

Thanks for the rec's guys, but the titanium is WAY too big. I'm gonna have it in my pocket with my keys all the time. I was looking for something maybe half that size.

Maybe the Imation?

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...spx?EDC=660878

You can probably find it cheaper somewhere other than CDW.

Yeah, I was looking at that. I like the size and that it's capless.
I've pretty much narrowed it down to that Imation and the Sandisk Cruzer Micro. The Sandisk has a removable cap, but I checked out a friend's and it seems to secure itself really firmly. I just have to confirm whether either of them have the embedded security software.

Did you even look at the Lexar Jumpdrive that I mentioned earlier...

It doesn't have a cap.. it has a sleeve that stays attached to your key ring and you insert the drive into the USB port.... then you can return it to the flexible sleeve and go on about your business....

No security software... just storage... and it isn't that big. I keep mine on my keychain at all times. No problem...

I have the 512 Cruzer Micro and angl2b has the same one. I've lost the big cap that's more of a sleeve. It comes with just and end cap also. I like it because it's smalll but remembering the cap is annoying. I would go with the titanium or the iomega one with the swinging cap.

Yes the Cruzer Micro has security software on it but you need to run and install it.

I feel ya brother. I just realized my Lexar Jump Lightning fell outta my school bag. Freaking bites the big one. I guess I'll have to get the Lexar Jump 1GB on rebate for a little over $50 at buy.com after rebate.

sandisk is my preference of choice. It has a cap tho.

for a little more money, I would get the sandisk titanium. NO cap, FAST, and the metal cover protects it from everything.

If size and price are the prime factors, you might want to consider this one on sale.

"JumpDrive Secure II is a USB 2.0 Flash Drive with advanced password and encryption software"

security software is the main reason I'm getting a new one. they don't work on the school computers here. thanks for the recommendation though.

DF, although the Lexar sport may be considered "mini" in your big pimp hands, it looks a little large for my little asian paws. I'll definitely check it out though. Thanks for the rec!

I'm sorta leaning toward the Lexar Impression. Not too manly, but it's very small, has an attached cover, and has a key chain hole.

My Sandisk 512 had some kind of security software on it - I copied the folder off to my notebook HD and then deleted it (via formatting the USB drive within Win XP) off the USB device.

I only see 3 at newegg that seem to meet your criteria. I think that there might be a few more in the 512mb range though.

I wish I could do that to mine, but I think it's embedded onto the ROM portion or something. There's no folder that I can see and formatting doesn't do anything.

[Insert "big hands" stereotype here...]

But seriously, it's not as big as you probably think, but hey... if you got small "girly hands" well...

Seriously, I haven't dismissed it as an option. I'll definitely visit a B&M to take a first hand look at it. It may be smaller than it looks, in which case it'll be a perfect match for the creteria I listed. Thanks DF and everybody else for all the great suggestions. It was a lot of help.
