Wireless optical mouse

Had this problem with a couple of optical mice, but on the latest one I've got it's worse than ever! When moving the mouse the cursor randomly flies over the screen, then it is fine again for a few seconds then the cursors starts flying around again.

I've had this problem on a smaller scale where the cursor only randomly moved around a bit, but on my latest one it's almost un-useable. It's not been on the same computer either.

My latest one is the cheapest mouse I have got it's a small wireless optical mouse I just needed to easily move around with my laptop. Any ideas why it does this and how it can be stopped? It's a USB mouse. Skyline Wireless Optical Mouse Model SM295, although I don't think the problem is model specific!

I've been messing around and this could be a strange solution, but could it be because the surface of my mouse mat is reflective? Just tried it on a black surface and the mouse is a lot better.
